I am excited to share that I will now be hosting STLwinegirl classes for Straub’s Markets beginning this month!
Two sets of classes will be offered - the first will work in conjunction with the new “Wine Pick” wine program the grocer is launching. Special pricing on a specific wine (or two) will be offered each month and I will be hosting a class that will not only feature that wine, but you will also get to take home a COMPLIMENTARY bottle of it! These classes will be suited toward a “Wine 101” type theme with a few twists along the way.
The first class - “Welcome to the Wonderful World of Wine” - takes place on Tuesday March 13th from 6pm to 7:30pm at the Clayton location. This will focus on learning the art of the swirl, sniff and sip as well as tips on buying bottles in markets, ordering in a restaurant, home storage, temperature, and more! Register here! $30 per guest, seating is limited.
The second series is entitled “If You Like That, Try This…” - we are all guilty of finding what it is we like and sticking to it. But I believe the fun of wine is the constant discovery of new wines. With this set of classes, we will take a familiar varietal or style and not only get to know more about it but also explore other grapes and wines that are “similar” to what you already enjoy but also take you just a step or two out of your comfort zone in the hopes that you find something new and exciting to sip.
Our first class in this series is Saturday March 24th from 4pm to 5:30pm (also at the Clayton location) and will focus on what could be the world’s “darling” of white wines CHARDONNAY. Registration is available here. $25 per guest, seating also limited.
I hope to see many new and familiar faces at this new venue, I think we will be able to do a lot of fun things there. Straub’s is a dynamic market and business and I am thrilled to be working with them!

Hey, it’s 21 in dog years…. That means a party is required.

On February 27, 2012, this little business of mine will celebrate three years in the growing world of food and wine in St. Louis. I can’t believe how the STLwinegirl brand has expanded from only small private tastings to an extensive compilation of events and services including public classes, wine dinners, restaurant and wine list consultation, charity auctions, social media management and food and wine writing. I have tried at all costs to maintain my focus of “creating a personal experience with food and wine that is approachable and accessible,” while engaging clients with exciting and distinctive events.

Keeping in theme with my goal to always educate AND entertain, I am excited to be hosting an unforgettable evening of food, wine and trivia on Saturday March 10 at Home Wine Kitchen to commemorate this milestone in my company. “A Taste of Trivia” will be a unique five course wine dinner that puts an elegant and epicurean spin on one of St. Louis’ favorite traditions – a trivia night.

My close friend and truly talented Chef Cassandra Vires will be working with me to create an exceptional menu that will give an inspired twist on some of my all time favorite food and wine pairings. Between each course, there will be a round of culinary trivia. Categories will include food, wine, craft beer, spirits and St. Louis restaurants. Questions in each topic will come directly from area chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers and bartenders.

It is impossible to have every chef, mixologist and wine professional at the event itself, but I wanted to find a way involve the local food community in the evening. Therefore I have asked my culinary colleagues of St. Louis to submit their favorite trivia questions and fun facts to include in the festivities.

For both the celebration of my journey as well as in honor of Women’s History Month, the evening will also be dedicated to raising funds to help young women entrepreneurs.

While I am excited to start my fourth year of business, I really wanted to make this evening about celebrating my passion for the St. Louis food and wine scene as well as take the opportunity to give back.

Proceeds from the event will go to a fund that STLwinegirl is collecting to benefit a future or up-and-coming female business owner.

I did not have much capital or investment when I started my company and as a young woman with an adventurous idea, I used what means I had to create what I could for my concept. I would like to help another ambitious woman do the same for herself and get a headstart on pursuing her dreams.

With social media being such a large part of what I do and it has clearly contributed significantly to building my brand, an online contest will take place in March to choose the recipient of the prize. Fans and followers of STLwinegirl on Facebook, Twitter and this blog will be actively involved in nominating and voting processes. I am hoping to raise over $1000 for the fund.

Donations to the cause will also be accepted online on my website as well as at upcoming February STLwinegirl events.

Tables will be available in four guest ($300), six guest ($450) and eight guest ($600) increments and there will also be a “wild card” community table to purchase seats for guests without a full group ($75 per ticket).

Seating for this event is limited to 50 guests. All tables and tickets will go on sale at 3pm on Friday, February 3 at http://STLwinegirl.com/.

Recap and Resolve

Welcome to the first Wine Wednesday of 2012!

Even in food and wine, in order to move forward, we must also look back. I am fortunate to get to experience a lot of wonderful restaurants, great bottles of wine and amazing events. And I always have my favorites, the unforgettables.

Now I want to know the HIGHLIGHTS of your 2011 food and wine experiences…

1) Best Restaurant Experience (preferably in STL)

2) Favorite New Dish/Food/Ingredient You Discovered

3) Most Memorable Bottle of Wine

Now looking to the New Year:

4) Most Anticipated Restaurant to Visit

5) One Thing You Want to Learn/Experience in 2012

post your answers in the comments below…

Keep in mind, not all of my favorite dining experiences were about the level of food… Sometimes it’s the impeccable service, the company I was fortunate to keep, the occasion that was celebrated. My most memorable bottle of wine was not necessarily its quality, but perhaps the reason for its opening.

The exciting about the world of food and wine is that it is everchanging, constantly evolving. Wines we may not have enjoyed in the past are now being produced in new regions that we may find we absolutely love. A dish or food we previously avoided could become a new favorite because a talented chef prepared it in a way you never tasted before.

I encourage you to keep your minds - and mouths! - open. Nothing is ever “the same” the second (or third, or fourth) time… Give everything a chance. You don’t know if you don’t like it until you’ve tried it.

Food and wine is and always has been about enjoyment. So, stop overthinking it and just have fun!

CHEERS to a New Year!

See you over the next glass….

WELCOME!
In an effort to continue evolving STLwinegirl and all that comes with it, I have decided to leave behind my old blog and start a Tumblr roll instead. I really believe this will allow me to connect with you guys more frequently with ease as well as share all of the exciting things that will be coming with the New Year! From photos and posts to events and articles, you can count on continuous and different content. And, of course, I promise not to be boring! Food and wine is FUN, let’s keep it that way.
Be prepared to also have random glimpses in to my everyday life and the ups and downs that come with being an entrepreneur! If you follow me on Facebook and/or Twitter, you know that I am not just “all biz” ~ I love sharing funny and interesting things I find, posting photos of great food and amazing pairings, inquiries into your world and asking for your advice and suggestions for me. Keeping with this, I have created the “Submit Your Wine Wonders…” tab up top for you to ask questions or submit topics that you would like me to cover.
Catch you back here soon :)
